Observance of Constitution Day, 2023

• Number of attendees: About 350 students along with college faculty members attended the guest session and about 131 students visited the Government of India website for taking part in Pledge recitation and Quiz on Indian Constitution.

Students’ Development Cell of DES’ Shri. Navalmal Firodia Law College celebrated the Constitution Day of India through various activities. The Celebration was undertaken by organizing different activities with a view to create awareness of significance of Constitutional document and contribution and efforts taken by its framers to formulate the same. There was organization of Guest Lecture on “Doctrine of Unremunerated Rights under the Constitution of India.” Students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college were encouraged to participate in activities like Constitution Quiz and recitation of Pledge.
Accordingly, on account of observance of Constitution Day of India on 26th November, 2023, all the teaching, non-teaching staff and students were appealed to visit the made available by the Government of India (https://mpa.gov.in/constitution-day) and to recite Pledge. They were also encouraged to attempt the quiz on Constitution of India. All those, who participated in such activities received E-Certificates from the Government of India. Students’ Development Cell received an overwhelming response to this initiative.
Another such initiative of the Students’ Development Cell was organization of Guest Lecture. The said lecture was carried out in online mode through Microsoft Teams platform. Theme of the lecture was ‘Doctrine of Unremunerated Rights under the Constitution of India” and was delivered by Dr. Fr. Peter Ladies F, Assistant Professor, Chanakya National Law University, Patna. At the outset, Dr. Priya Chopde, Students’ Development Officer of DES’ Shri. Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune, welcomed the Guest Speaker & the audience. Dr. Fr. Peter Ladis F in his lecture covered wide range of principles perspectives of the Constitution of India. The lecture was in lucid language and Dr. Fr. Peter Ladis F mentioned enoumerous judicial pronouncements for highlighting the judicial craftsmanship in interpreting the Constitution of India. Primary focus of the lecture was on the doctrine of unremunerated rights as are incorporated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide various of its provisions like, Articles 14, 19, 20, 21 etc.
• Outcome of the event: The session was extremely insightful and engaging. More than 350 students attended the said session. Students were encouraged to interact in the session by Dr. Fr. Peter Ladis F. there was a positive response on the part of students and they also posed genuine queries in relation to the tools of Constitutional interpretation. While concluding the session, Dr. Priya Chopde, coordinator of the Guest Lecture proposed formal vote of thanks. This session was found to be resourceful by the students. The session encouraged them to initiate their thought process for understanding the scope and ambit of Fundamental Rights of individuals as guaranteed by the Constitution of India expressly as well as impliedly.
